Contemporary

We are updating our image collection. Please check back Monday.

Contemporary art is a predominant component of the Kamm Teapot Collection with its visual complexity of image, form and meaning. Here, the teapot becomes a vehicle for sculptural expression, an abstraction, and a cultural reference. These contemporary works encompass all media from oil painting to digital video, with an in-depth focus on ceramic sculpture. Works in other craft media reveal the evolution of functional form to artistic content through processes such as felting, glassblowing, silversmithing, weaving and woodturning.

The contemporary collection features renowned artists, architects and designers. A few examples are Michael Graves, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Linda McCartney and Claus Oldenburg. Other seminal figures come from the studio craft field in America and abroad and include Robert Arneson, Wendell Castle, Richard Marquis and Toshiko Takaezu. Many new acquisitions come from the latest generation of artists working in clay, fiber, glass, metal and wood.
