Becky & Steve Lloyd worked together in their ceramic studio. The pattern on this small teapot was created by a carving process called sgraffito. First the white porcelain teapot was covered in a black colored layer of watery clay, called slip. When that dried, a tool was used to cut away the black layer to reveal the white porcelain below. It takes incredible skill to carve this tiny intricate pattern by hand.
