Connie Kiener is known for her painted designs on hand-built ceramic platters, busts, and sculptures. She works in the traditional Italian technique called maiolica. Watch this video to see the artist molding clay and painting a platter.

Kiener created this sculptural tea set specifically for the Kamm Teapot Collection. These oversized pieces serve as a canvas for Kiener’s imagery. She decorated the teapot with teacups and a blossoming tea plant. Titled Equata, the large cup with saucer has old world mapping of the tea-growing countries in southeast Asia. Kiener wrote the names of various teas inside the cup.
