At age 14, Georg Arthur Jensen (Danish, 1866-1935) began his four-year apprenticeship in goldsmithing. Afterwards, he studied sculpture and ceramics at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He exhibited his sculpture and worked in the ceramics industry to make a living. In 1901, he returned to metalwork as a silversmith and designer and was able to open his own studio by 1904.
Georg Jensen designed the Model 1 silver coffee and tea set in 1905. It is distinguished by beautiful shapes, finely hammered surfaces and turned-wood side handles. The example in the Kamm Collection was made during the years 1925 to 1930, based on the hallmarks. This set includes a coffee pot, teapot, covered tea caddy, and open chocolate pot. Its smaller vessels comprise a cup, an open sugar and a side-handled creamer.
