Kazimir Malevich was an avant-garde artist in Russia. He developed an abstract and geometric style called Suprematism. Malevich designed this teapot and a cup for the State Porcelain Factory (USSR) shortly after the 1917 Russian revolution.  He made the molds from which the teapot and cup were produced. The Kamm Collection copy of the Suprematist Teapot dates to circa 1930 and bears the mark of the State Porcelain Factory.
