Prior to obtaining her BFA degree in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing, Mary Lynn Podiluk studied Language and Linguistics. She has continued to pursue this earlier subject in her artwork, specifically in this teapot.  Podiluk states, “The design itself is inspired by the human tongue as it relates to speech.”

This teapot was featured in the 2023 exhibition Parall(elles): A History of Women in Design at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in Canada. This exhibition acknowledged Mary Lynn Podiluk among notable women designers in North America from the past 150 years.
