Porter Blanchard was born in 1886 in Massachusetts to a silversmithing family who had practiced the trade in New England since 1788. Blanchard apprenticed to his father, George Blanchard, and later moved to Los Angeles in 1923. He operated studios in Hollywood and later at his home for fifty years. Both of his daughters married silversmiths, who were involved in the Blanchard business. Read about Porter Blanchard in this 1993 Los Angeles Times profile that describes his legacy of traditional silversmithing.
